Grand Designs is een Britse documentaire van de zender Channel 4. De serie ging in première op 29 april 1999.
Sommige mensen dromen alleen van hun ideale huis, anderen bouwen het gewoon. Kijkers krijgen de gelegenheid om het hele bouwproces te volgen: van de allereerste schetsen op papier tot en met het daadwerkelijke resultaat. De altijd kritische Kevin McCloud bezoekt de locaties en praat met de eigenaars over hun ideeën en over de problemen die zij tegenkwamen tijdens de realisatie. In Grand Designs lijkt geen enkel huis op het andere, maar wat ze wel gemeen hebben is dat ze allemaal erg bijzonder en opvallend zijn.
Kevin revisits Tony and Jo, musicians with Scottish Opera, who had long dreamed of a home in the countryside. They found a perfect site on the Clyde estuary in Argyll and Bute. Located in a small village on a hillside, it had glorious views as far as the isle of Arran and was less than an hour's drive from Glasgow. Inspired by local oak-framed barns, they gave architect Andy McAvoy an open brief. In return, he gave them a design that fused medieval and modern and promised a beautifully simple interior.
