Het oor wil ook wat: Yo Home to Bel-Air van Will Smith

Televisieseries richten zich voornamelijk op het oog, maar wat steeds belangrijker lijkt te worden daarbij is het oor. De muziekkeuze bij series kan van zeer bijzonder tot niet bijzonder worden genoemd. In een nieuwe oor gaan we terug in de tijd en ook weer niet. Op 13 februari gaat bij Peacock de nieuwe dramaserie Bel-Air in première. Deze serie is een dramatische kijk op de comedyserie The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air met Will Smith in de hoofdrol. De serie uit de jaren 90 was het startsein voor de carrière van Will Smith. Zijn themalied die aan het begin is te horen is het onderwerp van de nieuwe Het oor wil ook wat.

Yo Home to Bel-Air, informeel bekend als The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air theme, is een lied uitgevoerd door DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince . Het is het themalied van de NBC -sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air . De teksten werden gecomponeerd door Will Smith , die optrad onder zijn artiestennaam 'The Fresh Prince', en het nummer werd geproduceerd door Jeffrey Townes onder zijn artiestennaam 'DJ Jazzy Jeff'.

Townes bracht het idee naar voren dat hij en Smith het themalied maakten nadat ze hadden geleerd dat de muziek voor de serie (gecomponeerd en geproduceerd door Quincy Jones ) werd gemaakt en presenteerde wat de muziek voor het themalied zou worden. Smith schreef de teksten na het lezen van de scripts van de pilot-aflevering. Will presenteerde het nummer toen aan Jones en hij vond het meteen geweldig en accepteerde het als het themalied.



Het nummer werd in 1992 als single uitgebracht in Nederland en Spanje door Jive Records , met Parents Just Don't Understand als B-kant en het werd in 2016 opnieuw uitgebracht door het platenlabel Enjoy the Ride. Het werd een hit in deze landen, met een piek op nummer drie in Nederland en nummer twee in Spanje en in februari 2018 ontving het een Silver-verkoopcertificaat in het Verenigd Koninkrijk. Het nummer verscheen op DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince's Greatest Hits album, samen met een aantal compilatie albums.
